PHASE A’

EGNATIA ODOS A.E. positively responding to a proposal by the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, EGNATIA ODOS A.E. undertook the project management of the urgent restoration scheme on the Cycladic Islands after the intense rainfalls that caused severe damages over the Aegean in February 2003.

EGNATIA ODOS A.E. proceeded to immediate action in order to efficiently meet the relevant managerial requirements as the Managing Service and created the Regional Service of Cycladic Islands.

Indicative of the level of difficulty of the specific project is the fact that the restoration of the extensive damages on the road network, as well as on the water supply and sewage networks –which, in certain cases, led to the total destruction of the islands’ infrastructure- required the execution of works at more than 450 locations and under very strict deadlines. The interventions were extremely urgent and had to be completed within four months, so that local communities could go back to their normal daily routine and be ready for the tourist influx of the summer period thus preventing a severe blow to the local tourist economy.

Initially, 16 contracts were awarded on 19 islands (Paros, Antiparos, Ios, Tinos, Andros, Sifnos, Serifos, Naxos, Kea, Kithnos, Siros, Mikonos, Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Sikinos, Santorini, Amorgos and Anafi) and later 2 more, all budgeted at €50mn.

The project time schedule included staged deadlines and conformed to the priorities set in cooperation with the local authorities and the Prefecture of the Cycladic Islands.

These restoration works are now complete on all islands.

PHASE B’

In July 2005, EGNATIA ODOS A.E. proceeded to tendering a new design contract budgeted at €33mn (inclusive of VAT) for the completion of full restoration works on the Cycladic Islands.
This contract entitled “Completion of works for the restoration of damages caused by natural disasters in 2003 on the Cycladic Islands (N0000)”, which was awarded to the contracting company «ΕLTER Α.Ε.» and its contractual fee amounts to €26.255.040, is now in progress (almost 70% complete), it faces no funding problems and is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.

PHASE C’

Under the contract concluded in January 2007 between the Greek State (and specifically the Managing Authority of the Community Support Framework) and EOAE, the company undertook the provision of intermediary services for the implementation of infrastructure works, as well as the provision of engineering services in the Regions of North Aegean, South Aegean (Cycladic Islands – Dodecanese Islands) and the Ionian Islands (Eptanisa). This contract will be executed by means of a Global Grant and through the management of the corresponding funds by EGNATIA ODOS A.E. acting as the Final Beneficiary within the meaning of article 1 of Law 2860/2000. More specifically, the Global Grant concerns project schemes that will include:

Construction and upgrading of main infrastructures, such as road networks, port works, water supply and desalination works, main building infrastructures for education, health, administration and other purposes, and
Environmental works, such as biological treatment and sewage networks, as well as waste treatment works.

This contract is currently in the design review stage and in the process of tender document preparation in view of the actual tendering procedure.
