Geotechnical and Tunnel Designs

In implementing the Egnatia Motorway project, the Engineers of the Geotechnical & Tunnels Discipline faced complex geotechnical problems along the alignment of both the Mainline and its Vertical Axes, and carried out major geotechnical investigation programs including sampling drillings, Cone Penetration Tests (CPT), pressuremeter tests (PMT), geophysical explorations, etc.

“EGNATIA ODOS SA” and its experienced staff can provide high-level services in conducting and reviewing geotechnical studies with regard to:

  • cut slope stability in rock or soil formations adopting solutions that determine geometrical features or dimension support methods using anchoring (either plain or prestressed), soil nailing or retaining structures.
  • high embankments, either conventional or reinforced with geocomposites, establishing a regulatory framework for conducting reinforced embankments designs.
  • embankments, with the aim to address problems pertaining to settlements in adverse foundation areas
  • restoration – stabilization of landslides with the aid of special retaining structures (e.g. pile walls), drainage works, and modification of the geometrical features of the landslide areas.
  • specialized bridge foundations, such as pile foundations, shafts, micro-piles, etc.

The Geotechnical and Tunnels section has also carried out the preparation and review of tunnel designs, which provided the staff with an opportunity for applying all state-of-the-art tunneling and support methods, as well as the preparation of tunnel entrance-exit designs
