Advice on driving behaviour in case of accidents or other emergencies | Advice on driving in tunnels |
As emergencies we classify the following situations that may occur on the Egnatia Motorway and its wider area:
Immobilised vehicles (due to breakdown, sickness etc) |
Accidents (with material damages and/or injured individuals) |
Failure of structures (settlements, cracking etc) |
Natural phenomena (extreme weather conditions, flooding, earthquakes etc) |
Obstacles or wastes on the road |
Other incidents (fire, terrorist and criminal actions etc) | In case of an emergency event involving your vehicle or the vehicle moving in front of you, act as follows:
Park your vehicle immediately, being careful not to cause any additional danger to the traffic. Do everything possible to move the vehicle on the far right, outside the road limits, at the edge of the hard shoulder and as far away as possible from the traffic lanes. |
Take traffic safety measures. Place the reflective triangle, which you should always carry in the car, at a minimum distance of 100m, so that it is visible by coming drivers, turn on hazard lights and, at night, keep rear position lamps on. The same applies when the vehicle in front of you is involved in an incident and your help is required. |
Driver and passengers leave the vehicle and stand at a safe place outside the road, behind the safety barrier. |
Try identify your exact location with the help of the special chainage markers. |
In case of an accident or incident that involves injured people or generates danger to traffic, notify immediately the Traffic Police, the Fire Brigade or EOAE by calling 100 or 199 or 112 or 1077 (Emergency Telephones, mobile phones etc); clearly indicate your location, the type of the incident and inform the competent authority about any injured individuals. |
In case of a road accident resulting in fatalities or injuries you must provide “all necessary help and support to the injured” according to the Highway Code. |
Try and avoid any changes on the accident site that may make difficult the work of the Police. An exception is made for actions intending to restore traffic disruption. |
In case of vehicle breakdown, call your road assistance service. |
If your vehicle caused damages to road furniture (e.g. impact on barriers, signs etc) be informed that EGNATIA ODOS A.E. will estimate the cost of the damage and claim compensation from you or your insurance company. |
